Climate Change PIX, the Eea photo competition on the impacts and solutions of climate change

Climate change affects our societies and the environment in many ways. Tackling climate change requires reducing emissions to mitigate the worst impacts and adapting to those that we cannot stop. For this reason, today the European environment agency (Eea) has launched the photo contest "Climate Change PIX" which aims to capture what is around us: change and invites participants to describe how climate change looks like in Europe and how we are responding to it.

The photos must be sent to the EEA by 1 August 2021 and there are 4 categories in competition:

  • Impacts of climate change on nature. How does climate change affect our environment? Can you represent changes in the air, land, water or wildlife?
  • Impacts of climate change on society. How does climate change affect the way we live? Can you show how it affects our health, lifestyles, built environment or economy?
  • Social solutions for climate change. From local communities to European initiatives, we are cutting greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change. Can you show it through your photos?
  • Individual action on climate change. People seek low-carbon lifestyles and take action to cope with extreme weather conditions. What does it look like where you live?

The competition is open to citizens of the 32 member countries of the European Economic Area and the 6 cooperating countries, including the 27 EU member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia. of the North and Serbia. All participants must be at least 18 years old. More information on the contest rules and how to participate on the “Climate Change PIX“ contest page.

The winners of the four categories of the competition will receive a cash prize of € 1,000 each. The EEA will also award a Special Youth Award for the best photo submitted by a young person and an "Audience Choice Award" will be selected from among all the finalists via an online vote.

Eea will announce the winners in autumn 2021.
